American Classical Academy Rutherford classroom

الأكاديميون

منهجنا الدراسي

A full course of study — history, literature, mathematics, science, Latin, art and music — taught in a deliberate order, by teachers who know the subject.

01 — The Shape of It

Two schools under one roof

ال المدرسة النحوية covers Kindergarten through Grade 5, the years when children have remarkable memories and love to recite. This is when they gather the facts, poems, tables and stories that everything later is built on.

ال المدرسة العليا covers Grades 6 and 7, when students begin to reason with what they know, argue a position and defend it — and discover they have something worth saying.

02 — The Subjects

What we teach, and how

03 — The Partnership

In partnership with Hillsdale College

We do not build a classical education from scratch. Through Hillsdale College’s K–12 initiative, our teachers work from a proven curriculum refined over years, and are trained and supported in teaching it.

أسئلة شائعة

What subjects do students study at ACAR?

All students study Literature, Literacy (explicit phonics and grammar), Mathematics, History, Science, Music, Art, Latin, and Physical Education.

Which curriculum does the school use?

ACAR teaches the Hillsdale K-12 curriculum through its partnership with the Hillsdale Barney Charter School Initiative, a proven programme designed to form a complete whole across subjects and grade levels.

Do all students really learn Latin?

Yes. Latin is part of the course of study for every student, alongside the other liberal arts and sciences.

What does "classical education" actually mean here?

A classical education seeks knowledge of the nature of things, drawing on the great works of literature, philosophy, politics and art to understand human nature, and on mathematics and the sciences to understand the physical world. It aims at moral formation as well as knowledge.

How are the subjects connected to one another?

The curriculum is integrated deliberately. Within a grade, history lessons connect with art, music and literature, and science lessons connect with mathematics, history and music, so that the foundation built in the younger grades allows deeper study later.
