Kara Youngblood

Education: B.S. in Education and English from APSU, M.L.I.S. from Louisiana State University

Brief Background:

My career in education has included teaching Kindergarten, 3rd, and 6th grades, serving as an elementary school librarian, and working with Nashville Public Library as a teen librarian before moving into library leadership and ultimately serving as a regional manager. I returned to the school setting because I missed the relationships formed with students and families, the joy on a child’s face when learning comes alive, and the lasting bonds that make being an educator so incredibly meaningful. It is that joy that has brought me to Hillsdale!

Why I Love Working at a Hillsdale School:

I love working at a Hillsdale school because we guide scholars to be pure of heart, eager to wonder, create, and immerse themselves in the joy of learning together. By removing distractions from the classroom, we form meaningful relationships and a learning experience that will truly prepare our scholars to become the Future World Changers they are meant to be.

Favorite Classical Quote, Book, or Thinker:

J.R.R. Tolkien is my favorite classical author. Favorite quote: “The wide world is all about you: you can fence yourselves in, but you cannot forever fence it out.” (Gildor Inglorion in The Fellowship of the Ring, Chapter 3.)

Personal Note:

Outside of the classroom, I am happiest outdoors and love birdwatching, nature photography, hiking, camping, gardening, and discovering new places with my son, Eli. I also love reading, music, LEGO, and just about anything that lets me learn, create, or explore!
