Dr. Thomas Covington
Assistant Head of School
Dr. Thomas Covington serves as Assistant Head of School at American Classical Academy Rutherford (ACAR).
Dr. Covington’s path to education has been anything but conventional. A proud U.S. Army veteran with more than a decade of service, he went on to work in higher education, district operations, and grants administration, and he earned his doctorate in education. Along the way, he discovered that his true calling was in the classroom and in school leadership. In ACAR he found a school whose mission of truth, virtue, and academic excellence matches everything he believes education should be, and he considers it an honor to bring his background in leadership, operations, and instruction to this community.
Dr. Covington loves that a classical education forms the whole person, not just the mind. He values working alongside dedicated teachers and families who believe their students are capable of great things and who hold them to a standard worthy of their potential. Watching students wrestle with great books, master difficult content, and grow in character reminds him why this work matters. His favorite classical quotation is Plato’s “The object of education is to teach us to love what is beautiful.”
Dr. Covington is a husband and an uncle.
